William H. Wohkittel, Tunkhannock, died Saturday at Mountain View Care Center, Scranton. His wife of 58 years is Donna Hughes.
Born July 22, 1935, in Scranton, son of the late Paul and Elise Nuber Wohkittel, Bill was a member of Tunkhannock United Methodist Church. He attended LaPlume Elementary and Dalton High School, and was a graduate of Keystone Junior College with an associate degree in education and earned his Bachelor of Science degree at East Stroudsburg State Teachers College. He received his Master of Science in guidance and counseling at the University of Scranton and completed additional graduate studies at Penn State University and Marywood College.
Bill was employed by the Abington Heights School District for 41 years.
He served six years in the Army Reserve and served as a member of the board of education of Lackawanna Trail School District. He also served as a member of the Dalton Borough Council and the Wyoming Area Agency of Aging.
Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He was a member of the Scranton Canoe Club for many years.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Mountain View Care Center for the exceptional kindness and caring they gave to Bill.
Also surviving are two sons, William and wife, Sonya, and their two children, Tara and Morgan, Endwell, N.Y.; and Stephen, Exeter; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Sheppard and husband, Thomas, Dalton; and Elaine Wohkittel, LaPlume; several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Paul; and brother-in-law, Scott Hughes.
The funeral service will be private at the convenience of the family with interment at Fairlawn Cemetery, Dalton.
