William E. Davis, 66, of Clarks Summit passed away at home on December 29 th , surrounded by his loving family, after a valiant battle with cancer. His loving wife is Dana S. Davis. The couple were married in 1986, but together for 38 years.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late William A. and Ruth Fox Davis. Bill, or "Bumper" (his nickname given to him by his sister Maureen), was raised in Scranton and graduated from Scranton Tech in 1972. He served in the U.S. Marines from 1976 to 1980. In 1986, he took a full-time job with the U.S. Army, then retired after twenty-one years with the rank of 1 st Sergeant. Bill went on to work as a Corrections Officer for ten years at SCI Waymart, before retiring in 2018 due to his illness. He was also a lifetime member of VFW Post 7069 and a member of Moscow Lodge 504.
Bill was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was given the name "Oopah" by his three grandchildren, who were the lights of his life. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed being in the woods with his son Billy and teaching his grandsons the basics of hunting. He was a fan of the New York Yankees and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He never missed a Valley View football game or cheerleading competition for his grandchildren. He was their biggest fan. Bill will be greatly missed by his family and friends, and all who had the privilege to encounter this amazing man.
In addition to his loving wife and devoted caretaker Dana, he is survived by his children: Megan R. Davis and fiancé Stephen Trotta of Archbald, and Billy Davis of Jessup; grandchildren Jordan Reyes, Gabriel and Laniyah Davis of Archbald; brother James and wife Lisa of Scranton; sisters Alice Coyle and husband Jerry, Maureen Scarfo, and Ellen Hill, all of Scranton; several nephews and nieces and their families.
The family would like to thank Hospice of the Sacred Heart, especially Angela, for their wonderful care and kindness.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of the Snows Church, with services by Rev. Stephen A. Asomah, Assistant Pastor. Interment with full military honors will be in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit.
