William A. Carl, Clarks Summit, died Saturday evening after a brief illness at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore. He was the husband of the former Margaret N. Perlitis. The couple was married for 56 years.
Born in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Orval J. and Mary Monahan Carl. He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. He proudly served his country in the Navy as a machinist. Before his retirement, he was an engineer for Mack Trucks for 35 years and most recently drove a school bus for Rohrer Bus Service. He was a member of the Abington Memorial VFW Post 7069. He was involved in the amateur HAM Radio Club, as well as being a member of Our Lady of the Snows Church.
Bill enjoyed golf and was known as the "Fix-It Guy," for his ability to repair anything for family and friends.
Also surviving are two sons, William B. and wife, Donna, Syracuse, N.Y.; and Dr. Glenn M. and wife, Melissa, Medford, Ma.; a daughter, Colleen Reiner and husband, Scott, Clarks Summit; a brother, Joseph Carl and wife, Ann Terese, Bethlehem, Pa.; a sister, Anne Grindle and husband, Francis, Glenside, Pa.; nine grandchildren, Michael and Jennifer Carl, Morgan, Brooke, Ashley, Bryce and Brayden Reiner and Madeline and Tessa Carl; several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Carl.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the Church of St. Benedict, 1849 Newton Ransom Blvd., Newton Twp., with services by Monsignor Joseph Quinn. All those attending, go directly to church for Mass. Interment will follow in the Abington Hills Cemetery.
Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
