Watkin Pierce, 69, of Lake Winola, died Wednesday morning at Community Medical Center. His wife is the former Carmen Vanderveken. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Born in West Side Hospital, Scranton, son of the late Ralph and Eleanor Pierce, he was educated in the Falls Overfield School District in Mill City, where he received his GED. Before retiring, he was employed with Overfield Twp. He was a life member of the Lake Winola Fire Company and a member of St. Mary's of the Lake Church, Lake Winola.
Also surviving are four sons, Jeffrey and wife, Pearl, Dalton; Timothy and wife, Lori, Dalton; Joseph, Lake Winola; and Eric and wife, Diana, Scranton; a daughter, Rose Nelson, Tunkhannock; a brother, Ralph and wife, Carol, Prospect Park; a sister, Joan Vitris, Scranton; nine grandchildren, Matt, April, and Mark Nelson; Christina Bohn; Brittney, Abigail, Benjamin, Anna and Gina Pierce; and two great-grandchildren, Logan Bohn and Madison Jordan.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's of the Lake Church. Friends are asked to go directly to the church.
