Walter B. Hetzel, 81 of Newton, died Sunday evening at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. He was the husband of Elizabeth Finkler Hetzel. The couple had been married for 62 years.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Earl and Isabel Ryman Hetzel. He served his country in the US Army and was employed as a carpenter and worked for a few years doing maintenance at McCrory's Department Store.
Walter enjoyed wood working, especially making bird houses.
Surviving are two sons Edward Hetzel, Ransom; and Jeffrey Hetzel, Newton; a daughter Susan Presley and her husband Gerald, Little Rock Ar.; two sister's Dorothy Smith, Dalton; and Bert Holmes, Fleetville; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers Charles and Robert Hetzel; and two sisters Anna Baggs and Mabel Bagg.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 7 pm from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State St. Clarks Summit Pa. 18411. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
