Dr. W. Douglas Muir, 87, of Clarks Summit, died Tuesday morning at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. His wife is the former Marie Gillette.
Born in Dunmore, he was the son of the late Walter H and Rebecca Nicholas Muir. He was a graduate of Dunmore High School and went on to receive his degree from the University of Pittsburgh as well as his doctorate from The Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine He served the area as a podiatrist for 54 years prior to his retirement.
Doug was an Eagle Scout, a member of Elm Park United Methodist Church and King Solomon Masonic Lodge No. 584 in Dunmore. He was instrumental in the development of Northeastern Pennsylvania's first Hospice facility. Doug was a generous, thoughtful man who was so intelligent and witty. He always brought light to any room he entered. He was a wonderful husband to Marie for 62 years and a great father to Scott and Jeff. He was always a joy to be around. He will be missed by too many to count. We all love you so much. You will always be with us.
Doug has been a caring and loving husband. We had a wonderful life together. I will miss him so much. He was the light of my life. I will hold him dear to my heart forever .
Also surviving are his sons, Dr. Scott D. Muir, Sugarloaf, PA and Dr. Jeffrey W. Muir and his wife Linda, Clarks Summit; four grandchildren, Tyler, Rachael, Austin and Mitchell Muir; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Nelson and William Muir and his sister Winona Pickering.
Many heartfelt thanks to the terrific care Doug received at Willowbrook, Abington Manor and GCMC. A special thanks to his first contacts at Willowbrook, Shaun and Ryan, and Penny at Abington Manor.
Dad would be remiss if he didn't thank his patients of 61 years. He loved you all.
The funeral will be held on Saturday at 11:00 from the Elm Park United Methodist Church, 712 Linden St., Scranton, with services by Rev. Mike Bealla, pastor.
Friends may call on Friday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elm Park United Methodist Church.
