Virginia Gairens Thompson, 97, of Clarks Summit, died Monday evening at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton. She was the wife of Roy Thompson, who died in 2002.
Born in Clarks Summit, daughter of the late Frank and Mary Ann Murphy Gairens, she was a graduate of Clarks Summit High School and was co-owner, along with her husband, of Thompson Farms. She was also a member and vice president of the Farmers Co-op Market.
Virginia was a lifelong member of Our Lady of the Snows Church and more recently the Church of St. Benedict.Virginia loved to cook and bake, especially her Welsh cookies.
The family would like to thank Celesta Trivelpiece and Velma Miller for the wonderful care they gave to Virginia.
Surviving are a son, John Roy Thompson and his wife, Rosemary, Newton; two daughters, Suzanne Drumsta, Newton; and Diane DeCicco, Ransom; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Rex Thompson; a great-great-grandson, Gabriel; two brothers, Frank and Robert Gairens; three sisters, Martha Boyd, Ann Wheeler and Sally Fleming, and two sons-in-law, Thomas Drumsta and William DeCicco.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 10 a.m. from the Church of St. Benedict, Newton Ransom Boulevard, by Monsignor Joseph Quinn, pastor. All those attending are asked to go directly to the church for time of Mass. Interment will follow in Newton Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
