Thomas Charles Philbin, 83, of Clarks Summit, died Monday morning at his home surrounded by his family. His wife of 47 years is the former Faye LaFontaine.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Walter and Mary Slowey Philbin. He was a graduate of St. Paul's High School, Pennsylvania State Police Academy, Hershey, Pa. and the United States Postal Service Security Force Program in Oklahoma. He also earned several certificates of continuing education throughout the year.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, proudly serving his county during the Korean War. Prior to retirement, he was previously a police officer for Department of Defense, Tobyhanna, and South Abington Twp., Postal Police Officer, U.S. Postal Inspection Services and ending his career as Special Deputy-CSO for U.S Marshal Service, Middle District of Pennsylvania. His most enjoyable time serving under the Honorable Max Rosen. He was very involved in local politics, served on the Clarks Summit Zoning Board, Union President of Local 73 and a member of National Panel of Consumer Arbitrators.
He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Also surviving are a son, Jeff, Meshoppen; two daughters, Eileen Vosburg, Meshoppen; and Erin Torquato, Abington Twp.; nine grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ellen Philbin Craig; and two sisters, Shirley Carr and Eileen Gunter.
A memorial service will be held Monday, April 9, at 3 p.m. from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit. Friends may call Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
