Listen to Obituary

Thomas E. Penny, 78 of Scott Twp. died Tuesday morning at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton. He was the husband of Madeline Riccio Penny, the love of his life. The coupled would have celebrated their 24 th anniversary in January.

Born in Hop Bottom, he was the son of the late Guy Penny and Grace Pratt. He was a self-employed contractor for TJM Construction, the company he founded. He was a truck driver in his earlier years and worked in maintenance at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church.

Tom seemed to be the Mayor anywhere he went and was always willing to help anyone in need. He enjoyed Christmas time the most, decorating and hanging lights until his heart was content. He will be missed by his friends at the Silver Spoon and Gourmet Restaurants.

Also surviving are two step-children, Mary Ann Mueller and husband Matthew; Andrea Yerger and husband Anthony; six grandchildren Andrew, Alayna, Bridget, Anthony, Nick, and Rachel; 12 brothers and sisters; and many nieces and nephews.
