Thomas August Nunes, Jr.

Thomas August Nunes, Jr., 39, of Costa Mesa, California, formerly of Clarks Summit, died on Tuesday in Orange County, California.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of Thomas A. Nunes Sr., of Lenoxville and Pamela A. Mercatili Jones, of Clarks Summit. He was a graduate of Valley View High School and Keystone College. He was employed at Tax Relief Associates in Irvine, California.

Thomas will be remembered for his kind heart and smile that would light up a room. He found joy in spending time with those he loved. He enjoyed healthy cooking, weightlifting, running, hiking trails and canyons in Southern California and listening to music. Those who knew him will remember his sense of humor, generosity, originality and the lasting impact he made on the lives of his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Thomas is survived by his brother, Michael Nunes of Archbald; his maternal grandparents Peter Sr. and Elaine Mercatili, Peckville; his aunts and uncles, Cheri and Thomas Magistro, Charlotte, NC, Peter Jr. and Lynn Mercatili, Archbald, Keith and Kathleen Mercatili, Peckville, Joan and Jeff Mikloiche, Clifford Twp, Carol and Bill Ammirata, Point Pleasant Beach, NJ, Jeff and Angel Nunes, Olyphant, and Audra and Michael Lynch, Dunmore; along with cousins, extended family members, and many dear friends who will miss him deeply. He is also survived by his mother's companion, Joseph Zakreski, Clarks Summit.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Thomas M. Nunes and Carol Stepnosky.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Church of Saint Gregory, 330 North Abington Road, Clarks Summit. Interment will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery, Waverly. Friends may pay their respects on Monday from 4 pm to 6 pm at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 South State Street, Clarks Summit or at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
