Theodore Joseph Jaditz, a resident of Clarkrs Summit, 91, died Sunday at the Community Medical Center.
He was born on St. Valentines Day, 1916, in Peacock Hill, Scranton, PA. He attended St. Peter and Paul School on Locust St. His family moved to Newton, PA in 1925. He worked on the family farm until he joined the Army in 1941. He trained as a Scout and was deployed to North Africa as a part of the 805th Tank Destroyer Battalion. He was captured in the battle of the Kassarine Pass. He was imprisoned in Stalag 3B in Furtsenberg, Germany. He was liberated by advancing Soviet soldiers in May of 1945. He was discharged from the service in October of 1945, having attained the rank of Sergeant.
He married Antoinette Eve Sklanka in September of 1945. They moved to Clarks Summit, where they purchased a home in December of 1945.
Starting from a job at Kreitner's Lumber Yard, he eventually became an independent contractor and built many homes in Clarks Summit area. He enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren.
He was a strong man with powerful hands. He could work tirelessly until the job was done. He had a lighter side, too. He was quick to smile and always advise to enjoy fun while it lasted as the opportunity seldom returns.
He was fiercely proud of his children and taught them the importance of education and achieving their avocations but to also remain grounded in the practical world.
He is survived by his wife Eve of 62 years, 5 children, Barbara lamberski, Indiana, Pa.; Susan Dixon, Chester Springs, Pa.; Mary Lou Heron, Clarks Summit; Dr. Stephen Jaditz, Clarks Summit; and Ted Jaditz, Bethesda, Md; 12 grandchildren, and a great grandson.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, his sister, Mary DeGilio, and grandaughters, Emily Dixon and Asastasia Jaditz.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday at 10am from the Church of St. Benedicts, Newton Ransom Blvd., Newton Twp. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Scranton.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4-7pm at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
