Steuart J. Bailey, of Clarks Summit, passed away on November 14, 2020 at the age of 86. Steuart lived well, laughed often and loved much.
Born in Clarks Summit, Steuart was the son of the late Florence and Guy Bailey. A United States Army veteran, he proudly served his country in Berlin, Germany. A graduate of the Valley Forge Military Academy Class of 1953, he attended Keystone College and Bucknell University. A Vice-President of S.J. Bailey Sons, Inc., manufacturers of Mastercraft Furniture, Steuart worked for the company for some forty years before retirement. He later was employed by the Scranton-Lackawanna Human Development Agency and Lackawanna County Veterans Affairs.
Steuart was actively involved in numerous community and charitable organizations. A member of the First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit, he served terms on the Board of Deacons and Board of Elders. He was a member of the Abington Heights Board of Education for twenty-two years, where he held the positions of President and Secretary. Also, he was a Life member and Commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars #7069, Clarks Summit and served on the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army, Scranton.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, the former Sandra Lynn Evans; five children, Tamara Block, and husband Neil, Port Jefferson, NY, Steuart Bailey Jr. and wife Carol, New Bedford, MA, Alicen Silfies, and husband Stephen, Macungie, PA, Jacklyn Bailey, Clarks Summit, and Robyn Quinn, Phoenixville, PA; nine grandchildren, Jordan, Kelsey, Brandon and Ryan Block, Nicole Lee and husband, Barnabas, Rebekah Bailey, Addy Silfies and Bailey and Kyle (KJ) Quinn; two great grandchildren; and his siblings Nancy Bushko, Helen Eckersley, Jack Palmer, Jeanne Palmer Mays. He is predeceased by daughter, Sandra Lynn Evans Bailey and brothers, Frank and Thomas Palmer, and James Wedeman.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, Clarks Summit by the Reverend William Carter. Due to COVID-19, masks and socially-distant seating will be required for all who attend.
A celebration of life for the larger community is planned for the Spring of 2021.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Clarks Summit or the American Cancer Society.
