Simon J. Shivock, 86, of Scranton, died Monday at Linwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Scranton. He was the husband of Ann Marie Manley Shivock, who died Feb. 8, 1998.

Born Aug. 7, 1928, in Scranton, son of the late Peter and Anna Semeska Shivock, he was educated in the Scranton School District and was a proud Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflict.

Before his retirement, he was employed by the local Heavy Highway Union 158 and worked for many years as a laborer for Stipp Construction Co. He was a member of the former St. Joseph's Church in Scranton, currently Holy Rosary Church.

Simon enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, playing poker and collecting model trains. He also often spoke of his part in building the Lackawanna State Park and climbing Mount Fuji in Japan. Simon had a great love for his beloved dog, Scout and his cat, Precious. He was a loyal and devoted friend to all. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. He was a proud Lithuanian who loved the polkas.

He was the last surviving sibling of his family, and his family was the pride of his life.

The family would like to thank everyone that was by his side during his illness, as well as Dr. James Sheerer, his nurse Carol, Hospice of the Sacred Heart and the entire staff at Linwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Surviving are a son, Joseph and his wife, Patricia, Nicholson; a daughter, Mary Claire Hagan, Scranton; six grandchildren, Patrick and Kimberley Hagan, Peter Shivock and Elizabeth Rosar; Christopher Shivock and his wife, Stephanie; Sarah and Paula Shivock; several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary; four brothers, Anthony, Leonard, John and an infant brother, Joseph Shivock; two sisters, Rita "Ruthie" Brown and Viola Lasata; a set of infant twins; and a son-in-law, Mark A. Hagan.

A funeral service will be held Friday at 8:30 a.m. from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in Holy Rosary Church, 316 William St., Scranton. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
