Shirley Verespy went to be in the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday evening, June 9, at Abington Manor. She was the widow of John J. Verespy, the love of her life. She and her husband John were long time residents of Dalton, Pa.

Born in Dalton, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Hazel Devans. She was a graduate of Dalton High School and attended Keystone Junior College. She retired from General Dynamics, where she had worked as a secretary. She was a member of Tunkhannock Presbyterian Church. Shirley was a gifted musician who played the organ and piano at several area churches, including First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit and Elm Park United Methodist Church.

She loved teaching piano to many local children. She had a passion for music and was a member of the Organ Guild, as well as taking up the harp later in life. She loved her dogs, and considered them part of her family.

Surviving are nieces, Naomi Ericksen and her husband, Erick, Norwood, N.Y.; Patricia Cadira and her husband, James, Easton; and Marcia Cheeseman and her husband, Charles, Apalachin, N.Y.; several great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Lane; and two brothers, David Devans and Charles "Bud" Devans.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Abington Manor and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their wonderful care and the compassion shown to Shirley.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit. Interment will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery, Waverly.

Friends may call on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Shirley's name may be made to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Rd., So. Abington Twp., PA 18411.
