Shirley Romaine Cosner, 84, of Newton Twp., passed into the arms of our Heavenly Father on Tuesday evening at Geisinger CMC in Scranton, surrounded by her loving family. Her husband of 49 years was the late Arthur Cosner who died in 2002.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late James Edward and Josephine Albrecht Parkton. She attended Clarks Summit High School and had previously worked at the Woolworth's lunch counter. Shirley was a member of the former Newton United Methodist Church, now Countryside Community Church. She was a member of the Newton Ransom Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary and the National Republican Committee.
Shirley loved to sing and was known for her beautiful voice. She devoted her life to her family, taking care of her husband in all his endeavors, and raising six daughters. She was a strong willed, beautiful woman with a heart that over flowed with love and pride for her family.
Surviving are her daughters, Sharon Kelly and her husband Dave, Esther Malys and her husband Henry "Hank", Norma Winowich, TSgt. Susan Nikl and her husband GSgt. Kenneth Nikl, ret., Becky Lechowski and her husband Wally, Jen Bates and her husband Richard; a stepson, George Dennis Moore and his wife Rhonda; grandchildren, Sarah Persinger and her husband Sgt. Bryan, ret., SSgt. David Kelly, Jessica Wargo and her husband Cpl. Matt, ret., Lizzy Malys Smith, Jim Malys and his wife Jenn, Kelly Sandy and her husband Shawn, P J Winowich and his wife Gabrielle, Heather Winowich, Sgt. Zachary Nikl, USMC, Quentin Nikl, Mark Serrenti Jr., Ricky Serrenti and his wife Sara, Richie Bates, Mika Bates, Kimberly Bates, Donald Jones Jr., Timothy Jones, Beth Ann Wharton and her husband Harry, George Moore and his wife Kira, Danielle Garber and her husband Jason; great grandchildren, Jacob and Logan Persinger, Zachary and Miah Kelly, Wyatt, Sean, Adalynn Wargo, "Baby Wargo to be", Gabriella and John Malys, Paige and Dakota Sandy, Samantha, PJ, Wyatt, Dannica, Travis, Madison and Elias Winowich, Samuel David Serrenti, Karina Moore, Rylee and Bryn Lee Garber; a great great grandchild, Arabelle Stacy Campagna; many many nieces and nephews.
Also preceding her in death were sisters, Mary Gesek, and Eleanor Snyder, brothers, William Parkton, Wesley Parkton, an infant brother Robert Parkton ; grandchildren Evan Arthur Kelly and Jaime Lynn Kelly.
Interment will take place at the convenience of the family in Cosner Cemetery, Newton Twp.
The family will receive friends on Monday June 10 from 5 to 7 PM at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home & Cremation Svcs., 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, PA 18411 .
