SFC Raymond Martin Whitney Jr., Ransom Township flew to the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ whom he loved dearly on Sunday morning. He had residing at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore after an illness.
Born in New Milford, he was the son of the late Raymond Martin and Elizabeth Griswold Whitney Sr. He served in the U.S. Army for over 25 years, in many countries, including one tour in Korea and two tours in Vietnam He received numerous medals. After his career in the Army he was a self-employed accountant. He was a member of the First Baptist Lakewood Church in Tacoma, Washington, where he served as a deacon, treasurer, Sunday school teacher and worked with their handicapped ministries. More recently he attended Bethel United Methodist Church and Waverly Community Church.
Surviving are two sons, Raymond Martin Whitney 111 of Seattle, WA and Jonathon Whitney of Springfield SD a sister Dorothy Bert, Ransom Twp (with whom he resided) and a brother Eugene Whitney of Lady Lake, FL. several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother Bruce Whitney Sr., and a sister Rosemary Broad.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3PM in the Bethel United Methodist Church, Falls Road with full military honors. Services will be conducted by Rev. Sandy Tompkins and Rev. James Cohen. Friends may call from 2PM until the time of the service at the church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home.
