Listen to Obituary

Seamus Alexander Heaney, 14, Clarks Summit passed away on Tuesday afternoon at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton as the result of a tragic accident.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of Thomas and Suzanne Yeselavage Heaney.  He was a student in the Abington Heights School District entering ninth grade.  He was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Church in Clarks Summit.

Seamus was a dedicated member of Boy Scout Troop 160 and enjoyed all of their outdoor activities, especially camping, canoeing, hiking and survival skills.  He also developed a recent interest in playing baseball and football. He greatly enjoyed playing in the Abington Little League Junior Division this summer and as a new member of the Abington Heights freshman football team he was eagerly anticipating his first game in late August.  He was a member of the Abington Heights JV Cross Country team last year.  Seamus was a creative and vibrant person who loved art and music.  He was a member of the AH Middle School Chorus in 7th and 8th grades and loved to paint and create art in any medium. He loved all his friends and family deeply and without limits and we will all miss his unique perspective and perhaps most of all his sense of humor and ability to light up a room.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his younger brother, Logan;  maternal grandparents, Raymond and Jean Yeselavage; paternal grandfather, Thomas Heaney Sr.and his companion Lee Holton; aunts and uncles, Lynn Marie and Ed Dugan and Stephanie and Ernie Williams; and cousins Sophia and Troy Williams and Sadie Dugan as well as numerous extended family.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Ellen Casey Heaney.

The family would like to thank the Clarks Summit Police Dept and Fire Dept Emergency Responders and the Staff and Physicians at Geisinger CMC for their bravery, empathy and compassionate care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State St., Clarks Summit at 9:30 a.m. by Rev.  Seth Wasnock, Asst. Pastor.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home & Cremation Svc., 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, PA  18411.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Seamus' name is being set up; checks can be made payable to Thomas Heaney, 1143 Northern Blvd. Box 186, Clarks Summit, PA  18411.
