Listen to Obituary

Scott Laird, 40, of Mechanicsburg, died at home Monday after a hard-fought battle with cancer. His wife is the former Michelle Ganter. The couple had been married for 11 years.

Born in Scranton to Bonnie Carter Laird and the late William "Bill" Laird, he was a 1999 graduate of Lackawanna Trail Jr/Sr High School, then received a Bachelor's degree from Shippensburg University and a Master's degree from Duquesne University. Scott proudly retired from the PA Army National Guard and was a member of the VFW and American Legion, as well as his local community's Social Committee.  Outside of the military, he worked as a Director at Barrett Distribution Centers, was actively involved in real estate and thoroughly enjoyed managing his small business, which he built from the ground up.

Scott fiercely loved his family, especially Michelle and their two little boys. He was ambitious, motivated, and determined in all that he did.  That determination helped him complete numerous marathons, including an ultra-marathon (100 miles), of which he was very proud. He had a tireless passion for debate and making his opinion known. He had an outgoing personality that made it easy to make friends and he loved his small- town NEPA (Northeastern PA) roots. Scott will be remembered for living life to the fullest and always having a good time.

The family would like to thank all of Scott's friends, to include his employer, for the wonderful support and help they provided to them during his illness.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Josh and Jace, both at home; a brother, Brian, his wife Karen and their daughters of Camp Hill; an uncle, Rob Carter, his wife Bobbi Jo and their children of Moosic; and a cousin, Elise Miller of Dupont.

A visitation will be held on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 South State Street, Clarks Summit. Interment with full military honors will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
