Ruth Adele Stanton, 86, of Clarks Summit, died Thursday at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton. She was the widow of Emerson Stanton, who died in 1973.

Born in Phillipsburg, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Josephine Schenawolf Bean. She was a graduate of East Stroudsburg High school, and before retirement, worked as a cafeteria aid at Abington Heights Middle School. She was a member of Grove Church of Scranton.

Ruth, or "MiMi," as her family and friends knew her, as loved to play bingo, especially at the Dalton Volunteer Fire Company, where she supported the ladies auxiliary. She also loved flowers, birds and watching her favorite baseball team, the Philadelphia Phillies. But her main passion in life was spending time with her family.

Surviving are a daughter, Darlene Monahan, Clarks Summit; a grandson, Blake Monahan, Scranton; two granddaughters, Caitlin Monahan, Clarks Summit; and Candy Waltz, Scranton; three sisters, Mary Resh, Stroudsburg; Jean Kroll, Rhode Island; and Joan Brush, East Stroudsburg; several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Hulda Waltz; a brother, John Bean; and son-in-law, John Monahan.

The funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, by the Rev. Scott Hall, pastor of Grove Church. Interment will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery, Dalton. Friends may call Monday, 5 to 8 p.m.
