Ruth A. McCoy of Dalton died Thursday morning at Geisinger Wyoming Valley in Plains Twp. after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Born in Athol Springs, N.Y., daughter of Henry and Catherine Benson Alexander of Dalton, she was a resident of the Dalton area for most of her life. She was a member of the Trinity Assembly of God. Before retirement, she was a hairdresser for Malcolm's.
Ruth was an angel to her family and friends and will be missed by all who knew her.
Also surviving are a daughter, Shannon O'Malley and husband, Bernard, Factoryville; a son, Jonathan and wife, Kelly, Lake Winola; a sister, Catherine Smith and husband, Erik, Factoryville; three grandchildren, Colin and Aidan O'Malley and Meadow McCoy; her companion, John Dzwonczyk, Dalton; two nephews, PV2 Thomas "Rusty" Landers, Hawaii, and Chauncey Landers, Dalton; and a niece, Ashley L. Clifford, Factoryville.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
