Ruth Maines, 93, of Clarks Summit died Thursday morning in the Abington Manor nursing facility.
Born in Carbondale, daughter of the late Horace E. and Mae Horton Geary, she was a resident of Clarks Summit for the past 12 years. Before retirement, she was the owner and operator of Maines Grocery Store in the Green Ridge section of Scranton and later purchased the Lamp Lighter Restaurant and Bar in Scranton. She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church and its Beta Class and the VFW Post 908 Ladies Auxiliary. She was a graduate of Carbondale High School.
She was a kind and loving mother and grandmother who loved to cook and bake her special apple pies. Her favorite place was her relaxing time at Newton Lake.
Surviving are two daughters, Carol Manziano, Clarks Summit; and Cathy McHugh and husband, John, South Gibson; two brothers, Warren and Russell Geary, both of Florida; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a special friend and caregiver, Gloria Martinelli.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Gary Maines; and a granddaughter, Robin Manzaino Toth.
A memorial service will be Tuesday at 7 p.m. from the Asbury United Methodist Church by the Rev. Arthur W. Davis. Arrangements by the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
