Ruth Thompson Crounse, a resident of Willowbrook Assisted Living, South Abington Twp., passed away peacefully on Oct. 3, 2014. Her husband was the late Rev. Rexford K. Crounse, a United Methodist pastor, who passed away in 1978. She celebrated her 100th birthday on Aug. 27, 2014, with her family.
Born in Newton, she was the daughter of the late John and Blanche LaCoe Thompson. She was a graduate of Newton-Ransom High School. Ruth grew up on a dairy farm in Newton Twp., and worked as a licensed beautician until her marriage. She enjoyed being a homemaker and mother, and was also employed for several years by Katz Department Store, Honesdale, Pa.
Ruth and her husband, Rex, served the United Methodist Church in many different churches throughout the Wyoming Conference. In the summer, they lived at Heart Lake, Montrose, Pa., and spent many happy times there with family and friends.
Surviving are two daughters, Ina May Record and husband, Dean, Morrisville, N.Y.; and Judi Baker and husband, Fred, Sherburne, N.Y.; a son, John Crounse and wife, Joyce, South Abington Twp.; four grandchildren, Ginger Tackabury, Scott Record, Stephen Crounse and Lynn Powell; three stepgrandchildren, Ron Baker, Debbie Losee and Sandy Baker; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by three siblings, Ivan, Clara and her twin brother, Roy.
The family would like to thank the staff at Willowbrook Assisted Living, South Abington Twp., for their exceptional care for the past nine years.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 1:30 p.m. from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, PA 18411, by the Rev. James Wert, retired pastor. Interment will follow in Newton Cemetery, Newton Twp.
