Listen to Obituary

Elisabeth “Betsy” Charney, of Clarks Summit, passed away unexpectedly at her home on October 2. She is survived by her loving husband of 25 years, Robert Charney.

Born in Butler, Pennsylvania, Betsy was the daughter of the late Thomas and Dee Ann Cleeland Schneider. She graduated from Abington Heights High School in 1984 and worked in the insurance industry for more than 30 years.

Betsy was a kind, generous, and loving person who had a gift for making others feel welcome. Always eager to strike up a conversation and make a new friend, she brought warmth to the lives of those around her.

She enjoyed music, flowers, and the companionship of her beloved dogs and cat. Some of her favorite places were Avalon, New Jersey; Perch Island; and St. Pete Beach.

A devoted wife and mother, Betsy found her greatest joy in her grandchildren. Her love for her family was at the heart of everything she did.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Jason Kearney, and his wife, Mara, of Dalton; her daughter, Sarah Kearney, of Scranton; her sisters, Nicole Lowe and her husband, Ron, and Jennifer Kearney; her five cherished grandchildren, Chloe Leigh, Jack, Aylah, Avery, and Mason; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas.

Betsy, you left us far too soon. We are heartbroken, but your love and spirit will live on in each of us. Until we meet again, we will carry you in our hearts. We love you always.

Friends and family may pay their respects on Saturday, October 10, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit.
