Ronald M. Suydam died March 1, 2022. A resident of South Abington Township, he was born May 29, 1934 in Whitensville, MA to Harry and Edwina La Flash Suydam. He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Edith Just Suydam.

Ron was a Navy veteran of the Korean conflict, having survived an explosion aboard the USS Bennington while many of his shipmates did not survive. After retiring from New England Motor Freight in Elizabeth, NJ, Ron worked at WEA Manufacturing and later at Walmart.

Ron traveled with the Navy to Korea, the Mediterranean and Cuba and later with his wife to Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. They also enjoyed cruises to Alaska, Bermuda and the Bahamas.

Ron was a woodworker, making and refinishing furniture. He was a voracious reader, enjoying Science fiction (that became Science reality) and mysteries. He liked listening to jazz. Ron loved the outdoors, camping and gardening. He was of the Catholic faith.

He is survived by the family that he dearly loved, son Matthew Suydam (Elizabeth) of Sicklerville, NJ; daughter Jocelyn Suydam of Old Forge, PA; granddaughters Emily Stewart (Kenneth) and Anna Marie Anastasi (partner Michael Madden); grandsons Joshua Suydam (Madeline) and Jacob Suydam (partner Meghan Kaminski); great grandsons Lucas Suydam and Connor Stewart; and cousins.

The family thanks Dr. Kenneth Tomczyk and staff at Geisinger 65 Forward and the staff at Allied Services Skilled Nursing and Hospice for the excellent care he received.

Ron's body was donated to Jefferson Medical College through Humanity Gifts. A memorial service will be held on April 23 rd at 1 p.m. at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit, with services by Reverend William Carter.
