Romayne Mary Pencek, formerly of West Scranton and Hayes McDade Apartments, Clarks Summit, died Sunday morning at the Lackawanna County Health Care Facility. She was the widow of Ferdinand F. Pencek, who died Dec. 17, 1976.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Orby and Margaret Welch Shafer, she was a resident of Clarks Summit for 16 years and a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Clarks Summit. Educated in the Scranton Public School System, she left school at the age of 14 to care for her younger siblings. She was a seamstress for Morris White Fashions in Scranton for over 35 years, retiring in 1980.
She was a beloved grandmother and mother who had a passion for Santa Claus and collected them for many years. She took great pride in her collection and knew just where and when she acquired them.
Surviving are two sons, Richard and his wife, Sharon, Scranton; and Frederick and his wife, Carol, South Carolina; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by five brothers and six sisters.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Lackawanna County Health Care Facility.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, with services by the Rev. George J. Mathews, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Abington Hills Cemetery.
