Rollin C. Williams Jr. went home to be with the Lord suddenly on Feb. 8 in Sebring, Fla. He was married to the former Alice Wells for nearly 65 years.
Born in Scranton, Pa., on March 10, 1928, he was the son of the late Elizabeth Chorley and the late Rollin C. Williams of Thompson, Pa.
Rollin graduated from Scranton Central High School in 1945, and immediately enlisted in the Army, 82nd Airborne, during World War II, where he was a paratrooper and also served as the chaplain's assistant. He worked as a professional driver.
First and foremost, he loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He loved his family and friends with all of his heart. Rollin had a passion for life and for helping people. He would frequently stop to help those stranded along the road and shook hands with everyone that entered church on Sunday morning. He lived in Clarks Summit for 43 years, then moved to Fiddle Lake, Thompson, Pa., where he spent the summers, and spent winters in Frostproof, Fla. He was a deacon and elder of the Green Ridge Presbyterian Church, Scranton, and a deacon of the Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit while in this area.
Rollin is survived by his wife, Alice, Fiddle Lake, Thompson, Pa.; his children, Alice (David) Coult, Oley, Pa.; Lori Keith, Miami, Okla.; and Martha (Orin) Kelkenberg, Clarence Center, N.Y. He was beloved "Grandpa" to his grandchildren, David, Melissa (Zech), Cassandra and Gary Coult, Isaac, Jonah, Naomi and Malachi Keith and Genna and Mary Kelkenberg; and 20 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth Evans, Harrisburg, Pa.; and nine nieces and nephews.
The memorial service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit. Interment will be at a later date in the Hickory Grove Cemetery in Waverly.
