Listen to Obituary

Robert J. Smith, 89, of Lake Winola, PA, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2020, at Lackawanna Health and Rehab Center, with his devoted companion Lucille Moon by his side.

Born on September 22, 1931 in North Bergen, NJ, he was the son of the late William J. and Anie (Lazorescak) Smith. Robert served as Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1952 through 1954 and was a proud veteran of the Korean War. After the war, he enjoyed a lifelong career as a carpenter, and filled his spare time with coaching Babe Ruth and Sandlot baseball, hunting with his beagles, racing pigeons, and was an avid fisherman.

Robert was predeceased by his wife Catherine (Aronica) Smith. He is survived by his brother, Richard Smith (Geri), and by his children, Linda Speckman (Gary), Dawn Moreau Olson (Tom), Kathleen King, and Robert E. Smith; as well as his grandchildren, Brian, Lisa, Innis, Matthew, Robert, Jason, Thomas, Lindsey, and David, and 12 great grandchildren.

Even though Robert and Lucille never married, they were inseparable and took great care of each other. Lucy and her family were a ray of sunshine in Robert's twilight years and brought him much happiness.

Our family would like to thank the entire staff at Lackawanna Health and Rehab for their excellent care on behalf of Robert. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405, Albany, NY, 12205.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit.
