Robert Joseph Shimkus, 66, of Dalton, died Tuesday morning at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton after being stricken ill at home. His loving companion of 36 years is Diane Breza.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Peter and Mary Squirek Shimkus. He was a graduate of West Side High School and prior to his retirement was a forklift operator at Harper Collins for over 40 years. He was a member of the local Teamsters Union #229. He was a US Army Veteran and a member of the Church of ST. Benedict, Newton.
Bob was a loving man who enjoyed the outdoors. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Also surviving are two daughters Sandy Fritsch and her husband Robert, Clarks Summit; and Michelle Thomas and her husband Jim, Jacksonville Fla.; a grandson Brandon Fritsch, a brother Peter Shimkus, Scranton; a sister Elaine Ward; Scranton; several nieces and Nephews; and his beloved dog "Jazzy".
A blessing service will be held Sunday at 5pm, from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St. Clarks Summit Pa. 18411. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call Sunday from 3 to 5pm at the funeral home.
