Robert A. Sheridan, 66, of Clarks Summit, died Thursday at Birchwood Racquet Club while playing tennis. His wife of 29 years is Sarah "Sally" Quinlin-Sheridan.
Born June 10, 1943, in Scranton, son of the late Robert F. and Catherine McDermott Sheridan, he was a 1961 graduate of Scranton Central High School and a graduate of Penn State University, class of 1965. At Penn State, he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He began his teaching career in the Pottstown School District and retired after 35 years from Abington Heights High School in June 2001. During his early years at Abington Heights, he was the tennis coach and he was a member of the NEA, PSEA and AHEA educational organizations. He was a life member of the Penn State Alumni Association and PASR.
Bob enjoyed being a member of the Scranton Tennis Club, the Birchwood Racquet Club and the Red School House horseshoe team. An avid outdoorsman, his passions were hunting, fishing and raising his beloved beagles. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, teacher and friend.
Also surviving are three children from his first marriage, a daughter, Wendy Sheridan Nowicki and husband, Eric, Hatfield; a son, Robert L. Sheridan, Lake Winola; and a daughter, Stacey Sheridan Summa and husband, Christopher, New Orleans, La.; two brothers, Donald and wife, Judy, Wilmington, N.C.; and Brian and wife, Shelly Rybnick Sheridan, Dalton; a sister, Karen Sheridan Scholler and husband, George, Charlotte, N.C.; four grandchildren, Natalie and Ryan Nowicki and Rocco and Isabella "Bella" Summa; his former wife, Dianne Conforti Sheridan, Dalton; several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Sheridan; and a nephew, Brian Sheridan Jr.
Friends may call Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit. A celebration of life will be held at 5, and family and friends are invited to share memories of Bob.
