Robert Willis Reese, 84, of Clarks Green, died at home on Wednesday April 27, 2022 with his family at his side.
Born in Scranton December 25, 1937, he was the son of the late Jesse Willis Reese and Alice Miller Reese. Bob grew up in Green Ridge and graduated from Central High School, class of 1955. He attended Wilkes College graduating in 1959 with a degree in psychology.
In 1959, Bob married Margaret Gelder and they were married for 62 years. After graduating college, they spent two years living in Dryden, NY before returning to the area, first living in Glenburn before settling in Clarks Green. Bob spent 17 years working in marketing at The International Salt Company in Clarks Summit. For 11 years, he and Margaret owned the Greentree Gift Shop at Clarks Green corners. He was assisting with the bookkeeping of his son's business at the time of his death.
Bob loved being outdoors and helping his community.
He was a lifetime member and former Assistant Chief of the Chinchilla Hose Company as well as a member and Fire Chief of the former Clarks Green Hose Company. Bob also served with the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency Civil Defense. During the floods from Hurricane Agnes in 1972, he participated in the disaster recovery response. From 1986-1991, Bob served as a Clarks Green Borough councilman.
In 1972, Bob obtained his pilot's license to fly small single engine planes. He would frequently fly out of Schultzville airport taking pleasure at the scenery below. He enjoyed taking his family up to share in this passion.
As a young boy, Bob enjoyed spending summers at his grandmother's family homestead in Wayne County. He continued visiting every summer as an adult, sharing the experience with his children.
Growing up Bob had been a boy scout and later became a boy scout leader. He was active with the YMCA. He would spin records on Friday nights for their weekly dances and was a counselor at Camp Spruks.
Bob is survived by his wife Margaret and their three children Sandra, South Abington Township; Jeffrey, Clarks Green and Kristen, Laurel, MD.
His family would like to thank Commonwealth Home Health Physical Therapists Bob and Sue as well as the wonderful nurses for their dedication, the 4 th floor staff of CMC for their round the clock attention and Sacred Heart Hospice for their care and compassion.
Family and friends may call Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit. A service will be held Saturday at 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit, 300 School Street, Clarks Summit. Private interment will occur at the Clarks Green Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the church after the service.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Chinchilla Hose Company of South Abington Township, Griffin Pond Animal Shelter or the First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit.
