Robert F. Howell of Scranton died Monday night at Mercy Hospice. His wife, the former Clara Craft-Sandly, died in 2004.

Born in Scranton, son of the late David and Bertha Osmolia Howell, he was the dock manager for Bolus Trucking Co. He was also employed by Gress Poultry Co. for many years.

Robert enjoyed playing bingo and taking casino trips to Atlantic City with his daughter and son-in-law. He also loved spending time with family, especially with his grandchildren, and going to family functions. He was an avid collector of life's long-lost treasures with his brother, Tom. He had a great sense of humor and love of life. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Surviving are four stepsons, Merle Sandly and wife, Mila, Waldorf, Md.; William J. Sandly Sr. and wife, Cheryll, Taylor; Albert Sandly and wife, Judy, Scranton; and Frank Sandly and wife, Wendy, Clarks Summit; a daughter, Leona Howells-Kisbaugh and husband, Patrick, Scranton; two stepdaughters, Donna Confletti and husband, Rocco, West Wyoming; and Cindy Sandly, Larksville; two brothers, Joseph Howell, Taylor; and Thomas Howell and wife, Audrey, Moosic; five sisters, Helen Abbott, Sally Kurtz, Dora Digregorio and Elizabeth Eisenhart, all of Scranton; and Lydia Yuhas, Duryea; 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by five brothers, infant twins and John, David and Charlie, and two sisters, Mary Davis and Bertha Speck.

A memorial service will be Friday at 11 a.m. from the Berean Church, 2754 Jackson St., Scranton, by the Rev. James Buchanan, pastor.

Friends may call Thursday, 5 to 8 p.m., at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
