Robert G. Dixon of South Abington Twp. died Thursday at home.
Born in Scranton, son of the late Robert B. and Dorothy Williams Dixon, he was a graduate of Miami of Ohio University and an alumnus of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. After graduation, he was commissioned by the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps as an ensign. His first duty was on a destroyer, the USS Caperton, for two years. Upon completion of flight training, he was designated a Navy aviator. He received the Vietnam Service Award for the missions he flew in Vietnam. Following active duty, he went into the Naval Reserve as an active reservist. He retired from the Navy with the rank of captain USNR. Before retirement, he had worked in the insurance business. He was of the Methodist faith and was a member of the Miami of Ohio University Alumni Association. He was also a member of Clarks Summit VFW Post 7069, where he was past commander, and also held several other offices; a member of American Legion Post 0953 in Nicholson and Clarks Summit Fire Company.
Surviving are three daughters, Lynn Dixon-Noone and husband, Michael, Sayre; Tamara Fry and husband, Dean, Limerick; and Laurel Kinback, Factoryville; a son, Steve Bray and wife, Susan, Waverly; eight grandchildren, Kevin Noone, Seattle; Juliana Noone, Sayre; Megan and Taylor Fry, both of Limerick; Amanda, Matthew and Sarah Kinback, Factoryville; and Stephanie Bray, Waverly; a sister, Patricia Witt and husband, Markquis, Florida; a niece and a nephew.
He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan Noone.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Hickory Grove Cemetery, Waverly, by the Rev. Brian Lucas.
The family will receive friends Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit. Clarks Summit VFW Post 7069 will conduct services at 6:30.
