Dr. Robert V. Davis, Waverly, died Saturday morning at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart at the age of 82. His wife is the former Judith Chandler. They were married in 1963.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Robert V. and Caroline Schroeder Davis. Prior to his retirement, he was a surgeon of ophthalmology for the Northeastern Eye Institute, as well as Moses Taylor and Community Medical Center hospitals. He was a member of the Church of the Epiphany in Glenburn. Dr. Davis graduated from Scranton Central High School in 1951, Princeton University in 1955, and Jefferson Medical College in 1959. He also served as a medical officer in the U.S. Navy before entering private practice.
Dr. Davis enjoyed singing for over 30 years in many area choral groups, including the Ekumen Chorale, the S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. barbershop singers of Scranton, the St. David's Chorus, and the choir at Church of the Epiphany. A passionate sailor, he owned several sailboats throughout his life; he was also an aviation enthusiast and held a pilot's license.
In addition to his wife, surviving him are a son, Jeffrey Davis, Kyoto, Japan; three daughters, Dana Robinson and her husband Scott, Simi Valley, CA, Paula Friedman and her husband, Timothy, Chicago, IL, and Rachel Kohl and her husband Christopher, Chicago, IL; a brother, Richard Davis, Charlotte, NC; and seven grandchildren, Dean and Tyler Robinson, Cameron and Madeline Friedman, and Andrew, Ethan and Reese Kohl. Dr. Davis was preceded in death by his two sisters, Carol Davis Norton and Ann Davis Laibe.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Church of the Epiphany, 25 Church Hill Road, Clarks Summit, PA, with services by Rev. F. Graham Cliff, pastor.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or the ASPCA.
