Robert J. Cummings, a lifelong resident of Newton Twp., died Friday evening. His constant companion for the past 14 years has been Toni Sargent. His wife, the former Jo Ann Blackwell, died in 2000.
He was the son of the late Ann T. & Joseph J. Cummings. After his father's death he was mentored by his late uncle, George P. Cummings, also of Newton.
Bob was graduated from Johnson School and was a peace loving, hardworking man. He started his work career with Dellert Construction and subsequently worked with John Gallo Construction. Later he became the owner operator of Cummings Custome Saw Mill, a lumber, firewood and saw milling business located in Newton.
Bob had a real love for the outdoors, as well as being an avid hunter and fisherman, often taking trips to New York State and Canada to pursue these activities.
Also surviving are a sister, Jo Ann Ceresi, Newton Twp.; nieces and nephews, John Ceresi and his wife Laslie and Scott Ceresi, Tina Rudat, Lori Brickel, and Sharon Chmiel and her husband Joe; great nieces and nephew, Courtney Rudat, Krista Brickel and Paul Chmiel; brother-in-laws, Will Murray and Jerry Blackwell and his wife Lenay, and sister-in-law Mary Ellen Burton and her husband Gary.
He was also preceded in death by a sister Mary Ann Murray.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11am from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit. Friends may call Saturday from 10am until the time of the service.
