Robert E. Baer, Clarks Summit, died Wednesday evening at Community Medical Center. He was the widower of Ann (Nancy) Baer, who died in April.
Born in New Bloomfield, he was the son of the late John W. and Anna Kniseley Baer. Before retirement, he was a bridge engineer for Reed and Coon Construction and later M.J. Spott Construction, Scranton. He was an Army veteran and a member of the Abington Memorial VFW Post 7069, Clarks Summit, and American Legion Post 177, Newport. Bob was happiest either working in the yard or making things work. He could fix anything. If a part was unavailable, he would design and build it. He will be most remembered for being the primary support and caregiver during his wife's illness.
The family wishes to thank those who helped Bob ease the pain of her passing by offering friendship and support. Thanks also to the Clarks Summit first responders and the professionals at CMC.
He is survived by a stepdaughter, Carolyn Andrews and husband, Robert Hair, Scranton; a brother, Dallas Baer and wife, Loretta, Newport; three sisters-in-law, Sara Daughenbaugh, Newport; Iva Baer, McAlisterville; and Diane Kraft, Harrisburg; five nieces, Daryl Rowland and husband, Tom, Nokomis, Fla.; Kathy Mitchell, Newport; Jodi Baer and husband, Joe DeFrancesco, New Bloomfield; Belinda Moree and husband, Bill, Silver Spring, Md.; and Jessica Baer, Harrisburg; a nephew, Greg Baer and wife, Penny; and grandnieces and grandnephews. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, John, Lester and David; a sister, Anna Mitchell; and a nephew, Brandon Baer, all of Newport.
The funeral will be Monday at 1 p.m. in the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, with services by Archpriest Basil Micek, pastor of SS. Peter & Paul Russian Orthodox Church. Interment with full military honors, SS. Peter & Paul Parish Cemetery in Scranton. Friends may call Sunday, 2 to 5 p.m. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Ave., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702, in remembrance of their care and support to the family when it was most needed.
