Richard W. Treible of Factoryville died Monday evening at Taylor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He and his wife, the former Lillian Monk, were married for more than 39 years.
Born in Stroudsburg in 1923, he was the son of the late Edwin and Anna Herman Treible. He moved to the Factoryville area in 1960 and formerly resided in Dalton. He was a member of Dalton Loins Club and Dalton Fire Company, and was a former Boy Scout leader in Dalton.
Richard had the longest record of service to Lackawanna Trail among retirees, at 38 years. The veteran science teacher earned a bachelor's degree from Pennsylvania State University and a master's degree equivalency with graduate studies at Bowdoin and Juniata colleges and Bucknell and Rutgers universities. He began teaching in 1945 at Dalton High School, moving to Lackawanna Trail High School when the new district formed in 1955.
Also surviving are two stepdaughters who also were his caregivers, Susan J. Brown and husband, Ted, Weatherly, and Cathy Everetts?, Scranton; two sons, George and Richard Treible; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two nieces.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Edwin Jr. and William Treible.
A memorial service will be private at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, by the Rev. Dennis Gray.
