Richard Meyer, 86, of South Abington, formerly of Yonkers, N.Y., died peacefully Tuesday afternoon at VNA Hospice. He was the husband of Corinne Harder, who passed away in 2006. The couple had been married for 47 years.
Born March 18, 1930 in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Edward and Verna Rogler Meyer. He was a graduate of Fort Hamilton High School in Brooklyn and went on to receive his bachelor's degree from Wagner College. Richard continued his education at NYU Law School, where he received his Juris Doctorate. He honorably served his country in the United States Army stationed in Alaska during the Korean War.
Working most of his life with McHugh, Leonard and O'Connor, in Manhattan, Richard practiced Maritime Law until his retirement in 1992. He was a staunch conservative who loved fishing, snowmobiling and the N.Y. Mets. He enjoyed watching sports, listening to conservative talk radio as well as the time spent with his family and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Surviving are a son, Keith Meyer and wife, Deborah, South Abington; two grandchildren, Kimberly Meyer, Erie; and Erik Meyer, at home.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Oberg.
A graveside service with military honors will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Greenhill Cemetery in Youngsville, NY.
Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, Pa.
