Richard Harris Lewert, 78, of Clarks Summit, died Sunday morning in the VNA Hospice Unit of Geisinger Community Medical Center.
Born in Scranton, son of the late John Robins and Gretchen Kleckner Lewert, he was a 1953 graduate of Scranton Central High School and earned an engineering degree from Keystone College. He was a proud Air Force veteran, serving as an airplane mechanic from 1955 to 1959. Before retirement, he worked in the office at P.A. Hutchison Co. for 38 years.
For years, Dick was well-known in the stock car world, where he raced at Moc-A-Tek, Penn Can Speedway and Five Mile Point. He was an avid golfer and especially enjoyed lending his talent to a local band, where he could play any instrument. He was a talented doodler, drawing cartoons in his spare time.
Surviving are a son, Richard, Jessup; two daughters, Karen Lewert, Archbald; and Kathy Agostini and husband, Carl, Old Forge.
A private graveside service with military honors will be held at Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Twp. Arrangements are entrusted to the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
