Richard Hostrander

Richard Hostrander of Clarks Summit died Sunday at Hospice Community Care in Dunmore. His wife of 57 years, the former Beatrice Smith, died in 2009.

Born in Cedar Run, son of the late Lee and Mabel Hostrander, he resided in the Clarks Summit area since 1963. He was the former manager of Roadside Development for the state Department of Transportation for 20 years, while also associated with Karam Engineers as a consulting inspector.

He was an Army veteran, serving his country during the Korean War. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit, where he served as a deacon and on various church committees. He was a graduate of Michigan State University. He was a very compassionate and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a true gentleman and will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Surviving are three children, a son, Craig Hostrander, Collegeville; two daughters, Belinda Sheroda, Middletown, Md.; and Lori Cirucci, Schnecksville; two granddaughters, Julie Cirucci, Schnecksville; and Sara Sheroda, Middletown; five grandsons, Jake and Reed Hostrander, Collegeville; Brian and Vaughn Sheroda Middletown; and Tony Cirucci, Schnecksville; two sisters, Nora Tabben, Michigan; and Thelma Monks, Wellsboro; two brothers, Edward Hostrander, Wellsboro; and Royce Hostrander, Williamsport; nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Meyers.

The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, 300 School St., Clarks Summit, with services by the Rev. William Carter, pastor. Interment will follow in Clarks Green Cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday, 4 to 6 p.m., at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
