Raymond Charles Rubner, 77, of Newton Twp., died Monday morning at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina. His wife is the former Rose Marie Tomasetti.
Born in Teaneck, New Jersey, he was raised by his grandparents, Stanley and Tekla Jaditz, on their farm in Newton Township. He graduated from Newton High School, and subsequently from The Pennsylvania State University, Main Campus. He served in the United States Army, and was stationed at The Presidio, in San Francisco, where he worked with the Nike missile batteries. Prior to retirement he taught science at North Pocono High School, teaching primarily biology and bacteriology. During his long and distinguished career in education, he was pleased to have taught and inspired three generations of many families, and it was impossible to travel with him anywhere in the continental United States without encountering former students/enduring admirers.
He was an avid follower of Penn State football, but his primary interest was his family for whom he tirelessly cared with unsurpassed generosity. For the last eight years of his life, he was first and foremost a grandfather, with his granddaughters' adoration a fitting testament to his character.
Surviving are his son Raymond Rubner, M.D., daughter-in-law Tricia, and beloved granddaughters Audrey Elizabeth and Sophia Rose, all of High Point, North Carolina.
