Raymond Kenia, 77, of Newton Township, passed away at his home on Monday. His wife of over 52 years is the former Patricia Chilewski.
Born in Pittston, he was the son of the late John and Josephine Kenia. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bernard Kenia.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons Thomas and wife Jennifer with granddaughters Paige and Ivy, New York City; Jeffrey, State College; daughter Michelle Moore and husband Jamie, Pittsburgh; sister Bernice Lynch and husband John, Nicholson; numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews; and countless friends and caring neighbors.
He was a graduate of Newton-Ransom High School. He worked the land as a farmer on Church Hill Road his entire life. His passion enabled him to raise and support a family as a young man and his devotion never abated in retirement.
As he advanced in age he always had projects around the farm to keep himself active and content. These projects oftentimes required Ray's signature innovative approach to repair. Neighbors Dan Keiper and Joe Sibio were always available to lend a hand and have been considered part of Ray's family.
Although not much of an online presence, Ray always had an ear to lend to neighbors and friends willing to talk and pass some time. People were drawn to his gentle wit, kind spirit and camaraderie.
Ray was one of a kind and will be sorely missed by all of us.
A funeral will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit, with services by Rev. Earl Cottrell. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
