Ray T. Gardner, Jr.
Ray Theron Gardner, Jr. of Butler, NJ passed from this life on November 28 at the age of 96 after a short illness.
Born on August 20, 1918 in Waverly PA, he was the son of Christena Jacobs and Ray T. Gardner, Sr.
He lived his youth in the Waverly-Glenburn area, relocating with the family in the late 1930s to Bloomingdale and Butler, NJ. He entered service in the US Army in 1941 and served in the Pacific Theater at Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, and New Guinea. On Dec. 4, 1944 he married Lois Marie Spencer, daughter of Carl and Elizabeth (Foster) Spencer. He spent his postwar career as a driver and foreman for A. H. Mathieu and Co. Chemicals/Philbro of Riverdale NJ.
Ray was throughout his lifetime an avid reader, observer, and learner especially interested in history, science and nature. He shared his love of these things with everyone he met, from staff in the doctor's office to workers at the businesses he delivered to. He loved to camp and travel.
He is predeceased by his sisters Marjorie and Jean and brother Harold, and survived by his daughters and their families: Pat Gardner of Benton Township, PA and her children Peri and Tristan Blomquist; Sue Gardner and Jerry Kuntz of Warwick, NY and their son Cary Gardner. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews.
A service of remembrance and sharing will be held at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home in Clarks Summit, PA on Saturday, December 13 at 1 PM. Interment will be at Abington Hills Cemetery. Arrangements by Richards Funeral Home, West Milford, NJ.
