Listen to Obituary

Peter David Veltri, 67, of Dalton, died on September 25, 2021 due to complications arising from Covid-19.  He was surrounded by loved ones when he passed.

Pete was born on November 24, 1953 to Marion Veltri and the late Peter Veltri at Nazareth Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.  He was raised in Throop, PA and graduated from Mid Valley High School in 1971.

Pete was a passionate musician, who played guitar, keyboards and saxophone. It was that passion that brought him to Los Angeles in the late 1970s. He attended the Guitar Institute of Technology, which has since expanded to become the Musicians Institute. Upon completing the program, Pete became a guitar instructor at the school.

He returned to Throop in 1981. Pete earned a certification from the David Winston Center For Herbal Studies in Washington, NJ.  He was an American Organization of Bodywork Therapies of Asia (AOBTA) Certified Instructor and Practitioner.  He was the owner of Sunrise Healing Arts in Clarks Summit, where he practiced Chinese herbal medicine and Asian bodywork therapy, including Shiatsu and Acupressure. For decades, Pete provided bodywork and herbal medicine to his loyal patients.

Pete's love of music never dimmed.  He played in several bands over the years, including the popular wedding band, Fancy Dancer, in the 1990's. Up until his illness, he spent hours in his basement studio, playing, composing, and listening to music.

Pete was married to his loving wife Janet on August 28, 2004.  The couple lived in Dalton with their energetic and sometimes crazy dog, Luna.  Pete and Janet greatly enjoyed travel, frequenting Important Bird Areas and national parks across the country and Canada to bird and hike.  When it was time to relax, Pete loved a good cigar.  He had a life-long interest in Sci-Fi and history and was always quick with a show or movie recommendation.  Pete loved food, often reminiscing about the freeway-side oranges in 1970's LA and the unsurpassable pizza of his youth.  He was a masterful cook, equally talented making spaghetti sauce from scratch or grilling his signature chicken wings.

Pete had a perspective on the world that made him an endlessly entertaining conversationalist. He rarely missed his standing Monday visit with his mother, Marion. Above all, Pete was a good man. Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him is better for it.

He is survived by his mother Marion, of Throop; sister Debbie Veltri, of Jessup; sister Janet (Veltri) McGraw and brother-in-law Gerard McGraw, of Havertown, and nephews Matthew McGraw and Daniel McGraw. He is also survived by his wife of 17 years, Janet Veltri, of Dalton; step-daughter Elizabeth Rightor-Roberts, step-son-in-law Adam Roberts and grandson Edward Roberts. Additionally, he is survived by many cousins, who he grew up with and remained a significant part of his life.  Pete was preceded in death by his father Peter Veltri and sister Gail Veltri.
