Paul Steinbacher, 97, of LaPlume, died Monday at Regional Hospital, Scranton. His wife of 76 years is Clementine Oakes Steinbacher.
Born in Bastress, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late George and Clara Deischle Steinbacher. He was a WWII Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army, and was awarded five bronze stars. He also served in the National Guard, then worked at St. Michael School for Boys and Acker Drill.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Paul Steinbacher, Jr. (wife Delores) of Virginia; daughters Sharon Earl (husband Kenneth) of Nicholson, Janet Bagg of Scranton, Theresa Ankoff (husband Daniel) of Fleetville, and Bonnie Matulevich of Harrisburg; a sister, Cecilia Haldeman of Bastress; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and 2 great great granddaughters.
Paul was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Ann Steinbacher; granddaughter, Kimberly Earl; and great grandson, Caleb Earl.
Paul will be missed dearly by all who knew him and would want everyone to take comfort in knowing his last breath here was his first breath in Heaven.
Friends may call Tuesday, Feb. 22, from 11 a.m. to noon, with service at 11 a.m. at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Covington Twp.
