Paul E. Homnick

Paul E. Homnick, age 87, formerly of Clarks Summit, died Sunday at his residence in New Port Richey, FL. He was the widower of the late Beatrice Ann Sebastianelli, and the couple was married for 57 years.

Born February 16, 1927 in Throop, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Chichura Homnick.

Paul proudly joined the Navy at 17 years old to fight in WW2, and served two tours of active Navy duty including a tour during the Korean Conflict. He was a radioman on the USS Cates 076 destroyer escort, but also assisted with on-shore security in Japan at and around ground zero only three weeks after the Hiroshima and Nagasaki nuclear detonations.
He worked as a mechanic after the military tours, and owned and operated the West Side ESSO on Main Street in West Scranton until 1970. He then moved from West Scranton to Clarks Summit and worked as a technician for P&G until retirement in 1997. Paul lived in Orlando and New Port Richey, Florida after retirement.

He attended high school in Throop and was a member of Our Lady of Snows church in Clarks Summit.

Surviving are three sons; Paul and his wife Cindy in Shickshinny, Mark in Florida, and Kurt in Clarks Summit. His grandsons are Philip and his wife Jessica at Shickshinny Lake, Dr. Paul and Katie in St. Paul, MN, and Peter at Shickshinny Lake.

Mass of Christian will be held on Saturday, August 30 at 11 am in Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State St., Clarks Summit, PA. Interment will follow in Abington Hills Cemetery, So. Abington Twp.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 am until the time of service at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, PA.
