Niles E. Gardner, Mill City, died Monday evening at the VNA Hospice at Community Medical Center. His wife is the former Susie (Ethel) Pennell. The couple would have been married 52 years June 4.
Born in Clarks Summit, son of the late Niles A. and Mary Elizabeth Rice Gardner, he was employed by Glen Oak Country Club for more than 20 years in its maintenance department. He was an Army veteran and a man of the Methodist faith.
His passions in life were whittling and landscaping, and he was a member of the National Woodcarvers Association. Niles was known for his hand-carved wooden mice.
As a young boy he appreciated the beauty of nature, which he recreated through his wood working.
Also surviving are a brother, William R. Gardner, Clarks Summit; and a sister, Mary E. Bagg, Factoryville.
A private graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Glendale.
Arrangements are by the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
