Nicholas "Butch" Degilio, Jr., of Ransom Township, died Friday evening at his home. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Joan Huggler.
Born in Pittston, he was the son of the late Nick, Sr. and Mary Jaditz Degilio. Nick was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, and uncle. He was a graduate of Newton-Ransom High School, attended East Stroudsburg University, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a chauffeur in Korea for two three-star Generals. Nick was also a longtime member of the VFW Post 7069, Clarks Summit, a charter member of the Ransom Lions Club, and a lifetime member of Ransom United Methodist Church (now Countryside Community Church). Before retirement, he was owner of Degilio Trucking, now Degilio Services.
Nick enjoyed the simple things in life like hunting, fishing, gardening, growing garlic, reading, and traveling, especially to Clearwater Beach. He will be greatly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, sisters, and friends.
He is survived by his son, Robert Degilio and wife Meghan, Mill City, and daughter, Lisa O'Brien and husband Pat, York; grandchildren Collin and Trevor Griffiths, Peckville, Madison and Taylor Degilio, Mill City, and Brooke O'Brien, York; sisters Georgina Hanis and Mary Ann Milo, both of Ransom; sister-in-law Alice Hilson; brother-in-law Neil Bartholme; an uncle, Vito Degilio; an aunt, Freda Jaditz; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Wayne and Sue Sherman, Mildred and Glenn Sutter, Joe and Phyllis Fayocavitz, and Sue Drumsta.
Nick was preceded in death by three infant grandchildren, Jason and Tyler Degilio and Aislynn O'Brien; father-in-law and mother-in-law Walter and Sophie Huggler; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Michael Hanis, Carol Bartholme, Robert and Dorothy Huggler, Albert Huggler, Ruth and Len Pasternak, Charles and Betty Huggler, Lawrence and Doris Winters, and John and Lorraine Fayocavitz.
A funeral with military honors will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Countryside Community Church, 14011 Orchard Drive, Clarks Summit, with services by Rev. Jim Hollister. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Countryside Community Church or VFW Post #7069, 402 Winola Rd., Clarks Summit, PA 18411.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit.
