Nettie Grace Ball Altoonian, 86, of Clarks Summit died Tuesday Mar. 22, 2016 at the Jewish Home in Scranton. Her husband was the late Isaac Altoonian.

Nettie was born on Dec. 14, 1929 in Clarks Summit, to the late Vernon W. and Mary "Mae" (Williams) Ball. She was a1947 graduate of Clarks Summit High School. After graduation, she attended Lackawanna Business School, worked at the Glen-Alden Coal Co. in Scranton, and later the Commonwealth Telephone Co. in Clarks Summit. Upon moving to Philadelphia, she worked her way up to chief telephone operator at the University of Pennsylvania.

After her retirement, she moved back to Clarks Summit where she was an active member of the Clarks Summit United Methodist Church, the Clark-Burn Reading Club and a former member of the Juanita Chapter No. 8, Order of the Eastern Star. Nettie was very proud of her Welsh heritage and enjoyed attending many Welsh events. She also enjoyed traveling, including a trip to Wales, and many other destinations.

She had a quirky sense of humor; she was a beloved sister, Aunt, cousin and a good friend to many. She would bring a smile and a story wherever she went. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Nettie is survived by her nephew, Brad Ball and his wife Alba of South Bend, Ind.; and her cousin and caregiver, Cindy Combs of Scott Township.

She was preceded in death by her brother James Ball.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Jewish Home of Eastern Pa. and Compassionate Care Hospice for their kindness and compassion , as well as Dr. Kenneth Rudolph for his devoted care.

A celebration of Nettie's life will be held on Saturday at 11am at the Clarks Summit United Methodist Church, 1310 Morgan Highway, Clarks Summit.
