Nancy McCarthy died Friday, February 4, 2022, at St. Mary's Villa in Elmhurst. Her beloved husband of 59 years, Bud McCarthy, passed in 2012. They were truly inseparable and Buddy was her world.
Born in Scranton's Hill Section, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Margaret Boland Rafter. A graduate of Central High School, she attended Marywood College after graduation, and in her forties re-enrolled studying Speech Pathology. She earned her PA Realty License, and was awarded FTD's Master Florist Award while working the family business, McCarthy Flowers. Her life was devoted to availing her children with every opportunity. She insisted on swimming, baseball, field hockey, skiing, horseback riding, gymnastics, and every sport lesson, with her never ending car pooling and cheers from the stands. Her focus was keeping her children and husband happy, and enabling each of them to achieve any goal they desired. The same encouragement from Nancy and Bud continued on with their beloved grandchildren. For nearly 70 years she was an active member of the Country Club of Scranton.
