Mona Irene Burtsell Durso, 83, of Clarks Summit, died Sunday morning at Allied Services Skilled Nursing Facility. She was the widow of the late Anthony Durso, who passed away in 2004; the couple had celebrated 51 years of marriage.
Born in Fort Fairfield, ME, on April 22, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Lowell and Miria Burtsell. Prior to her retirement she was employed as a Registered Nurse at various hospitals throughout her life. She also worked at GNC as a sales clerk for many years.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be dearly missed. She loved to keep up on medical advancements and her nursing skills. Though they lived many miles apart, she enjoyed staying in touch with her childhood friend and surrogate sister, Betty Jenkins of Fort Fairfield, ME. Mona loved the church and was a member of Our lady of the Snows Church in Clarks Summit since 1964.
Surviving are four sons, Donald and his wife Sarah, Christopher and his wife Donna, Cory and his wife Amy and Michael and his friend Joseph Moran, all of Pennsylvania; four daughters, Cerredwin Deborah Marshall and her husband Joseph, Washington, Toni Esgro and her fiancé Richard Weidlich, Pennsylvania, Merry Koscianski and her husband David, Pennsylvania and Karen Zimmerman and her husband Scott, Virginia; 19 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher "C.J." Durso, Jr.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Allied Services Skilled Nursing Facility for the compassion and exceptional care during Mona's stay with them.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday at 10 am from Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State St., Clarks Summit, PA. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of the Snows Church in Mona's memory.
